Nosaj Thing is the work of LA-based electronic musician Jason Chung, who took time out from recording his next album and prepping for his performance at Coachella to answer a few questions for Flavors. If you’re there this weekend, be sure to catch him and the new visuals in his show:

Flavors: You started making music at a young age and have a wide range of influences. How did you give focus to your work?
Jason Chung: I got into into DJing when I was about 13 years old. An older friend of mine passed me a copy of music production software later that year and I was instantly hooked.

F: Your songs don’t have vocals but are incredibly successful at conveying emotion. In your mind, is there a specific story to go with each, or is it more general than that?
J: Some of the songs have stories, but most of them are emotions that came out at the time I started them.
F: How do you feel about your upcoming gig at Coachella?
J: I’m still getting everything together for the new visual show and new songs. I’ll be excited once that gets done.
F: What nerdy net stuff or gadgets have you been into lately?
J: I like the Apple TV. The Vevo app with AirPlay lets me play old music videos on my TV.
F: How about music? What’s in your “Recently Played” list?
J: Zoo Kid, Jon Wayne, Felt Drawings to name a few.
F: Why did you choose to use Flavors to power your website?
J: It’s simple and easy to update. I also like how you can integrate social media sites.

J: What’s next for you?
